WW1 toxic compound sprayed on Georgian protesters, BBC evidence suggests – After the BBC investigation was published, Dr.Anna Dolidze established a working group for those affected by chemical weapons, within which she met with dozens of victims who were directly harmed during the protests. According to information released on December 1, based on a BBC investigation, it has been revealed that in November–December 2024, a toxic chemical—previously used during World War I—was deployed in Georgia to disperse protesters.

The substance had been mixed into the water sprayed by water cannons.

This investigation once again confirms that the demand raised last year by Dr. Anna Dolidze, Chair of the For the People party, was both accurate and justified. Let me remind you that it was Dr. Anna Dolidze who, already last year, warned that Georgian Dream was allegedly committing a crime against humanity and that immediate action was required. She was the only politician who launched a campaign on this issue and consistently raised it both internationally and domestically.

After the BBC investigation was published, Dr. Anna Dolidze established a working group for those affected by chemical weapons, within which she met with dozens of victims who were directly harmed during the protests.

Last week, Dr. Anna Dolidze met with one of the protest participants, Alexandre Tirkia, who sustained an injury near his eye.

The text is presented here in full:

Friends, I met an extraordinary young man, Alexandre Tirkia, who was seriously injured when a gas canister hit him during a protest. Alexandre is still undergoing rehabilitation. Instead of receiving attention and care, the state completely neglected him. They left him entirely without support, not to mention the investigation. I want to thank Alexandre for his fight and dedication. I will pursue this case to the very end, until justice is served for Alexandre and other victims. — said Dr. Anna Dolidze
